DuncanPowell has a comprehensive understanding of the issues facing educational institutions having been engaged to assist both primary and secondary schools address financial issues. Given our experience in the educational sector we have consulted to the Independent Schools Board of South Australia and provided training to its members.
We were appointed Voluntary Administrators of Massada, Adelaide's only Jewish primary school with after school care and was located in the eastern suburbs. As a result of an internal dispute there was a rapid decline in enrolments. Despite ongoing support from the Jewish community throughout Australia, enrolment numbers never recovered to sustainable levels. The school became unviable owing to lower than expected enrolment numbers and an unsustainable fee structure. The school continued to trade for six months before being closed. The property is currently on the market for sale.
We were appointed Liquidator of the Southern Yorke Peninsula Christian College located in Edithburgh, South Australia, at the conclusion of the school year. Due to its country location, there was a lack of regular enrolments and new students on a year-to-year basis, and therefore, the fee income was unable to support the cost structure. In view of these fundamentals, we realised the infrastructure assets.
We were appointed Voluntary Administrators of the Glendale Christian College which had campuses located at Goolwa and Victor Harbor in South Australia accommodating over 450 primary and secondary students. We continued to operate the school whilst emergency funding was sought from State and Commonwealth Governments. Notwithstanding significant community and political interest, funding was not forthcoming and we immediately closed the school and negotiated the sale of the college campuses to the Lutheran Church. This enabled the school to re-commence in the new year.
We were appointed Liquidator of The Light Community Montessori School located at the Roseworthy Agricultural College north of Adelaide. On appointment we conducted a viability assessment of the school to address the ongoing financial and educational requirements of the students. However, the fundamentals of the school were unsustainable and the decision was taken to close the school.
We were appointed Provisional Liquidator, and subsequently as Liquidator, of Marbury School, which offered a Montessori based education curriculum based in the Adelaide Hills. On appointment we continued to operate the school as we conducted a viability assessment of the school to address the ongoing financial and educational requirements of the students. After careful consideration we closed the school due to lack of student numbers and the fee structure. During the process we dealt with the students and staff in relation to the educational requirements of the students, government bodies in relation to funding, the non government schools registration board and other stakeholders.
